Description
Cycle through the picturesque trails of Santa Cruz Islands, ascending through lush vegetation to discover the majesty of endemic flora and fauna, the famous giant tortoises in their natural habitat, and unforgettable panoramic views. An active and refreshing experience that will connect you with the green heart of the islands.
We will meet at San Francisco Park in Puerto Ayora to pick up the bicycles, take the bus to Los Guayabillos, and ride down to the tortoise reserve, Galapagos Frontier. Here, you will be welcomed by a naturalist guide with over 30 years of experience, who will lead you through one of the most unique forests in the Galapagos—home to the highest number of plant species found nowhere else
on Earth.
Along the way, you’ll pass through the transitional forest zone, having the chance to observe giant tortoises in their natural habitat throughout the route. You can also spot several species of endemic birds, such as the yellow warbler and Darwin’s finches, among many others.
Later, you’ll have the opportunity to explore two lava tunnels, featuring recently formed stalactites and stalagmites. There, you will learn about the geological formation of the Galápagos Islands and, with some luck, catch a glimpse of the barn owl that inhabits the cave. The tour will end with delicious juice from the fruit trees grown in the reserve.
